Panama is so much more than the canal, the capital and the beaches. In the provinces of Herrera, Veraguas, Cocle, Los Santos and Chiriqui there are many inland destinations worth visiting. Las Tablas is the capital of the Los Santos province and recognized as a center for art, music, culture and literature. It is also known for its yearly carnival celebration.
The town of Chitre is the capital of the Herrera province and serves as the gateway for much of the Azuero peninsula. From here, travelers can head south to visit Pedasi, Playa Venao and Cambutal. The town of David is the capital of the Chriqui province and the 2nd largest town in Panama. It is the agricultural hub of Panama and located close to the Costa Rican border and just about a 1 hour drive from the mountain towns of Boquete and Volcan.
Looking for something adventurous? Take a day or overnight tour to the Embera village where the Embera tribe lives and they are happy to share their culture and traditions. About a 2 hour drive/boat ride from Panama City.
